Welcome to the fifth update of the World Cup 2022 ONS Superbru competition!!

Wales 0 Iran 2

Football matches aren’t won on reputation and sadly Wales are teatering on the brink now because of this fact. Aaron Ramsey didn’t put a foot right in that game but the same could be true across other parts of the pitch. It isn’t over yet for Wales, but they have made their lives so much harder after these first two games. Despite it being the statistically hardest group in terms of rankings, most people would be happy with a group like this.
Credit to Iran – to come back positively from their first game – they were always the sharper looking team.
In our league – nobody went for an Iran win, so nil point all round!

Qatar 1 Senegal 3

Game over for the hosts – Senegal record their first win in this tournament and are in the mix to get of the group.
In our league nearly everyone got the close result – with most of the group going for 2-0! A game that only had one outcome according to everyone bar Andrew Walton!!

Portugal 3 Ghana 2

At last goals for Mother Africa – but Ghana still ended up losing. Didn’t get to see this game – but sounded much more interesting than the earlier games today.

Nobody from our crew went for the 3-2 but plenty of 1.5’s to go around.

England 0 United States 0

England return to their usual tournament form with an abject display against the USA. The USA were full of energy, England looked like they had done a 10k before the game. In some ways I am pleased as it illustrates what a poor coach Southgate is. No real attempt to change the game and for a reason that only he knows, not playing Foden yet. A disappointing result in the wider scheme of things as it makes the group even more precarious for Wales.

In our competition only Tom Finnerty had the common sense that the first result was an aberration and went for a draw.

Pool Results

As Round Two starts we have had a bit of a reshuffle at the top, but these three pointers really make a big difference. Our top three is now as follows:

  1. Craig Taylor
  2. Jake Hopper
  3. Joe Drew

Have a great weekend!
