The darkness falls over São Paulo and England’s future in the World Cup 2014. England have to turn 84 years of record books on its head to become the only team to qualify after losing their first two games. Mind you they seems to be equally as shit in 1986 and seemed to muddle through. It is frustrating that after the optimism of the first game, they fell apart – I’m not sure England had a midfield for much of that game. It looked to be 5-0-5 to me.

Gerrard looks at the end of his road and has been a shambling shadow of his previous self. He also certainly no captain. That is one area where Terry is head and shoulders above all other England players in terms of leadership. We now have to cheer on Italy and hope and hope Italy slam them. Personally I would dispense with Gerrard, Rooney and Welbeck for the next game. Hopefully they might have an “accident” in training. As someone put on twitter “I’ve been waiting for years for England to be as good as Spain and now we finally are”.

Shades of the last time England were in the World Cup in 1950, when they lost to USA. Back then the BBC thought it was an error on the final result wired through and said that England had won 10-1!!!

Suarez is a class act and a supreme world class player – how much would England love to have someone of his ability on the park?

Back to the first game, Columbia held on to a 2-1 win despite a late fight back from Ivory Coast. Didn’t realise Columbia is the second most populated country in South America with 45m people – about time they fulfilled their potential. As it stands all the South American teams are flying!!!

In the final game Japan and Greece ended up in a 0-0 draw. Greece had a man sent off in the first half with a harsh decision by the ref, but Japan were awful in trying to break down Greece with a man advantage. Like England, despite their abject performances, they are still in with a shout of qualifying.

In the competition,  the lead has changed again with Mark Taylor now edging Pete Lee into second place. Round leader at the moment is Richar McCrae, closely following by Anna, who after predicting the 0-0 in the Greece v Japan game is now in third.

At the other end of the table, Byron has made it out of last place to be replaced by Sam Morgan.
