The quarter-finals, when there was still hope – forgot to send this one out!
Uruguay v France
France returned to form but still eased to a 2-0 win over a Cavani-less Uruguay. He was a massive miss for them, but the scoreline flattered France with the second goal befitting of a Scotland goalie. Only Craig Taylor predicted the 2-0. Chapeau!
Brazil v Belgium
Brazil exhibited finishing that befits an Under 8’s team down the parks. Belgium got their tactics spot on and out-thought them early on, but despite that the finishing from Brazil was woeful! Coutinho and Paulinho were shocking. Anyway, another shock. We had five legends getting this spot on, with Demon Duncan, Owain Thomas, Rob Doody, Nick Hughes and Pete Reynolds. Well done all!!
Sweden v England
England dispatched a Sweden team devoid of any strike power. Inevitable, but in retrospect, hard to see what all the excitement was about. Three people got this one spot on; Duncan Reid, Rob Doody and Gavin Edwards.
Russia v Croatia
It wasn’t to be for the hosts, but they got a lot further than most people thought. Despite Modric missing a penalty earlier in the game you felt that Putin had his finger on the button of fate, but it was not to be. Well done to Jen Greenwood for getting this result spot on!
