This update coincides with the end of Round 2. Round 3 sees the introduction of dual screen in order to keep an eye on the two games at the same time. There are going to be some cracking double headers given where some of the groups are fixed.
Belgium v Tunisia
Belgium this their straps against Tunisia and won convincingly 5-2. However, Tunisia, who were quite organised defensively against England, saw two defenders go off with injuries. No-one got this spot-on, but Drew Senior – Ricko – was very close with 4-1!
South Korea v Mexico
Mexico power on through the group stage with a 2-1 win over South Korea. Gutted about the late goal from Son, as I had Mexico 2-0! Nine people predicted the 2-1 in our pool.
Germany v Sweden
Didn’t watch this one, but kept in touch with it. At half-time, I was quite at excited at the prospect of Germany going out in the group stages, but never underestimate them!! A man down they still managed to get the win! Out highest number of exact scores so far for this one with 14 getting three points.
England v Panama
I know everyone will say it is only Panama, but not a bad shift from England – so close to getting two hat tricks in one game. Excellent all round from England, except for Sterling who was still shit. Obviously no-one got the 6-1, but three people were close on 4-0 – Steve Drew, Joe Drew and Duncan Reid – loving the positivity.
Nigeria v Iceland
A great game which leaves both teams in a good position to qualify. Japan pulled it back twice and still everything to play for. A pulsating game enhanced by the consistent African drums in the crowd – marvellous. In our competition, three people got the 2-2; Tom Finnerty, Ross Palmer and Mark Taylor.
Poland v Colombia
Cracking game from Colombia with three great goals – all assisted by James Rodriguez. He is the opposite of Rahiem Sterling, Rodriguez only seems to play well in the World Cup. Poland were awful and they can all get a taxi back to Warsaw. No exact result from our pool but two close predictions from Jamie Pritchard and David Bailey.
Update five sees the Lee/Deb combo storming away in front, with an incredible performance in Round 2 – hope you had some accumulators on after predicting six correct scores!
