After today’s matches, FIFA should consider making all matches 120 minutes – much more fun. Highly entertaining and the Carnaval continues in Brazil.

The first game saw a diabolical Argentina blunder their way through to beat Switzerland. Dim Maria must have had a bet on for much of that game with the way he was playing, but managed to step up and strike home a lovely pass from Messi. Switzerland were resolute and should feel unlucky to to take it to penalties.

In the second game, the amount of chances Belgium had in 90 minutes was breathtaking. The balance of squander from Belgium and incredible keeping from Howard was captivating. The resolve of USA was a pleasure to watch, a team who gave everything they had – as a fan that is all you could ever ask and they will go out of this tournament with their heads held high. I’m not unusually a fan of our American friends, but for football I make a happy exception.
In the end Belgium looked home and hosed at 2-0, but the late rally from USA out it on a knife edge. If this World Cup continues like this it will never ever be topped. Especially when you see Russia and Qatar on the horizon.
In our competition, Dean Goodway smashes it this evening, getting both games spot on and he leapfrogs into the lead position. Obviously the pressure is suiting him well!!
