After watching Italy, you wonder where England are in the pecking order. Costa Rica went out and played their brand of football, at pace and with passion and didn’t let Italy, and most importantly, Pirlo play. As we all know the result means that England can head for a bonus summer holiday, leave their legs fresh for Euro 2016.

On that showing though, if Suarez is fit, could see Italy joining England on their way back to Europe. It certainly is looking like a tournament for the boys from CONMEBOL and CONCACAF.

In the second game, which I only listened to on 5live, Switzerland were dismantled by France. Normally as tight as a gnats chuff, Switzerlands defence was breached time and time again, and the scoreline was rather flattering for the Swiss.

Missed the final game, down the pub, drowning the sorrows of disappointing week. Ecuador beat Honduras 2-1 in a lively game (apparently).

In our own World Cup, Richard McCrae is our third round winner of the cap de jaune and has moved up 11 places to fourth. Mark Taylor remains in the lead. With so many surprises at this world cup, there is hope for us all.

I have now expelled, Anna du Bruin! Not sure what happens with the leaderboard though.

Have a good weekend!
