After twenty minutes it all looked full of promise – England opening up Italy a few times and some crisp passing up the field. But after that, it all seemed to go downhill – England seemed to lose their energy and brains and just sat back. Quite why Ashley Young stayed on the pitch is a mystery, and if Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson are your options off the bench, you know you have limited options!! Rooney looked never in it, and if it weren’t for the great work of Lescott and Terry, it would have been game over much earlier. Miracle that it went to penalties really, but never mind – better to go out like that, than be battered 4-0 by the Germans!!

Anyway, in our competition, things have closed up at the top. Russ and Steve have closed the gap on Dean, so there is still plenty to play for. Again, the closing games are worth more points… the table is as follows:
